Reading Revelation Through First-Century Eyes

A thoughtful, historically grounded study of the Book of Revelation — seeking to understand what its original audience would have understood.

The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His servants — things which must shortly take place.
Rev. 1:1

Revelation is one of the most discussed — and often misunderstood — books of the New Testament.

Many approach it with modern assumptions, speculative timelines, or interpretations shaped by later traditions.

This study takes a different approach.

By examining historical context, language, culture, and audience, we seek to understand Revelation as it was first written — to real believers living under Roman rule in the first century.

ABOUT THE TEACHER

James V. Head

Jim Head is a lifelong student of Scripture who has spent more than twenty years teaching Bible classes and leading small-group studies, with particular focus on the Book of Revelation.

Drawing from decades of study and a professional background in critical analysis, Jim approaches Revelation with deep respect for its historical setting, language, and original audience. His aim is not to provoke controversy or speculation, but to read the text carefully and consider what it meant to those who first received it.

Jim lives in Tyler with his wife, Peggy. When he’s not studying or teaching, he enjoys time with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren — and any conversation about planes, cars, or racing.
